Hey! What has portrait got to do with CG? That's what alot of people don't understand. If you do know how to draw good portraits, you'll know the porportion of human head inside out! And if you can handle 2D well, you just need to handle one more axis that is the z depth! ^^

Okay, enough, let's get down to business here. I'm going to go through the proportion of a human head.

1:1:1

The head is divided into by 2 red lines. The vertical line all the way down is call 'human middle' (sorry, I translated this word directly from Chinese) the horizontal line divides the face into 2. Usually, in an art class, the teachers will teach the students to draw from general to specific, meaning to draw the overall head first then fill in the details. However, I tend to do away from this.

1) First, I'll draw the eyes first.
2) Between 2 eyes is actually 1 eye wide.

Tips:
The size of our human eyes are never equal. An experience artist will draw one of the eye smaller whereas most people tends to draw the 2 eyes equal in size which makes the drawing very unnatural.
